TBC has met on this site since 1950 and has gone through many changes over these 60 years. The congregation of the church comes from the immediate surrounding area of the church as well as other local suburbs of Southampton and Hedge End.
Vision and values
We believe the greatest commandment - ‘love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbour as yourself,’(Luke 10:27) -provides a dynamic framework for fulfilling our vision. We seek to model this in three directions: love the Lord your God (UP), love your neighbour (OUT), and love yourselves (IN).
By using the model of a triangle, holding the three different emphases and directions for growth in balance we will ensure we are obeying Jesus and nurturing a healthy, balanced church community life. These areas of vision are regularly reviewed and discussed and both a leadership and church community.
Core values
God calls us to nurture and become:-
• a worshipping community -worship must not just be what we do on Sunday but how we follow Jesus every day of the week
• an inclusive community -making everyone who comes to our church feel welcome, wanted and needed.
• a missionary community - if we follow Jesus and do what he asks, others will see and hear about his love for them and will want to follow Jesus too.
• a prophetic community - God speaks to his people and God speaks through his people about the wrongs and hurts in the world.
• a sacrificial community - a church made up of people who want to be like Jesus and give their lives for others. This means thinking about the work we do for God and thinking about how the way we live day by day will make a difference to other people.
Leadership
We have a team of three fulltime ministers: Ruth Neve (senior minister), Andy Mills (associate minister) and Simon Dando (Childrens and Youth Minister). There are currently 7 deacons, all of whom have specific roles within the church. As both a leadership and a church community we are committed to seeing members discover and use their gifts in the life of the church and community.
Buildings
In 2008 TBC underwent an extensive redevelopment - we now have a wonderful suite of rooms that can be adapted for numerous uses. These rooms include offices, a youth lounge, a fully fitted catering kitchen and four halls of varying sizes. The sanctuary is now a flexible space, fully carpeted with under-floor heating, comfortable chairs, adaptable lighting, p.a. and multi-media facilities.
The church premises are used on a daily basis by an increasing number of groups and agencies from the locality. If you are interested in hiring a room, please contact the church office for details and a booking form.
